Brief Biography
Matthew Henry (1662-1714) renowned Bible commentator. Born at Broad Oak in Wales and educated at home by his father, a non-conformist minister. Began studying law, but was interested in theology. After the declaration of liberty of conscience by James II in 1687 he was ordained in London. He then became pastor of a Presbyterian church at Chester where he remained for 25 years. He was known as a faithful, humble minister and loving pastor of souls.
